2020: a milestone in the evolution of digital architectural design. Opening a new chapter in the history of the digitization of the design tools, the new decade is part of a process that began in the 1990s with the digitization of the traditional drawing board (CAD), a process that continued in the 2000s with the emergence of BIM (Revit, Archicad) followed by the spread of visual programming interfaces in the 2010s (Grasshopper, Dynamo). The new decade that is beginning will be the decade of platforms and ubiquitous computing. This evolution towards data-centric design means a complete revolution for the world of architecture with the advent of an open source ecosystem heralding the emergence of a true digital design continuum.
